In the summer of 2024, a planned terrorist attack threatened Taylor Swift's scheduled concerts at Vienna's Ernst-Happel Stadium. The concerts, part of her "Eras Tour," were set to take place from August 8 to August 10, with each concert attended by 65,000 fans.

The investigation revealed that a minor Syrian national named Mohammad A. and an Austrian young adult, Luca K., were the main suspects. Mohammad A. was charged in Germany with supporting a foreign terrorist organization (Islamic State) and assisting Luca K. in planning a bomb attack at the stadium. Luca K. was arrested two days before the concerts and sentenced to two years in prison for his role in the plot.

The trial against the suspects has been underway since August 2025, with court proceedings secured, though full trial details and verdict outcomes have not been publicly released yet. The terror plot led to preemptive concert cancellations for public safety, and all tickets were refunded.

The investigation uncovered that Mohammad A. had adhered to IS ideology since at least April 2024, facilitated bomb-making instructions by translating Arabic materials, and helped establish contact with IS members online. The 15-year-old in the Berlin trial is a different individual, who is alleged to have helped Luca K. by translating a bomb-making manual and facilitating contact with a member of the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS).

The first concert of the series was preceded by the arrest of Luca K. and possible accomplices for planning an Islamist terror attack using explosives and melee weapons. In response to the threat, the Vienna parliament decided to allow Austrian investigators to monitor online communications.

Despite the tragic events, Taylor Swift's fans gathered in Vienna to sing, exchange friendship bracelets, and unveil a memorial plaque in memory of the cancelled concerts from the previous year. The memorial plaque serves as a reminder that hate has no place and that joy in music and life should not be taken away by terror and hate. The gathering took place in Corneliusgasse, a street named after a Swift song.

As the trial against the suspects continues, the hope among fans is big that Taylor Swift will eventually perform in Vienna. The singer is scheduled to perform at the same venue in August 2024. The suspect's lawyer stated that he distances himself from the ideology, but the suspect's current stance on the accusations remains unclear, as no indictment has been filed yet. The evaluation of secured data in the investigation is not yet completed.
