In a chilling turn of events, the planned performances of Taylor Swift's "Eras Tour" at the Ernst-Happel Stadium in Vienna were cancelled in August 2024 due to a confirmed terror plot targeting the events.

The plot, which was foiled by authorities, involved a central figure in Austria, Luca K., and a Syrian teenager, Mohammad A., who were arrested and charged with assisting in the attack plans.

Luca K., a 20-year-old Austrian, was arrested shortly before the concerts and later sentenced to two years in prison. Mohammad A., a 15-year-old Syrian, was arrested in Berlin and charged with assisting the Austrian suspect by translating bomb-making instructions and facilitating communications with members of the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS).

The investigations revealed that the attackers had links to ISIS ideology, with Mohammad A. playing a significant role in connecting the Austrian suspect to ISIS members online.

The cancellation of the concerts triggered enhanced safety measures at subsequent Taylor Swift tour stops worldwide.

Despite the cancellation, Taylor Swift's fans, known as "Swifties," gathered in Vienna, Austria, a year after the planned concerts, to show their support and express their hope that she will eventually perform in Vienna.

A memorial plaque, a symbol of resistance against hate and terror, was unveiled at the gathering. The plaque serves as a reminder that hate has no place in Vienna and that the joy in music and life will not be taken away by terror and hate.

The Berlin trial involving Mohammad A. is ongoing, with the evaluation of secured data not yet completed. As of August 2025, Luca K. has been sentenced and Mohammad A. has been charged in Germany and remains under investigation.

The focus of the gathering in Vienna on the day was not on the investigations but on the shared love for Taylor Swift and the hope that she will eventually perform in Vienna. The gathering took place in Corneliusgasse, named after Swift's song "Cornelia Street."
