Gathering in honor of the departed: The Beckenbauer kin pay tribute to their late sovereign

A passionate golfer, Franz Beckenbauer (78), may he rest in peace, was known for his philanthropy. His foundation, established in 1982, aids those in need through no fault of their own. In recognition of Beckenbauer's unforgettable spirit and love for golf, as well as to keep his social commitment alive, his family, including his wife Heidrun (58), and children Joel (25) and Francesca Beckenbauer (21), invited friends and family to a special sporting event.

Last weekend, the "Franz Memorial Cup," a charity golf tournament, took place at the "Das Achental" resort on Lake Chiemsee. The event raised 206,000 euros for the Franz Beckenbauer Foundation.

On Friday evening, Heidi Beckenbauer, dressed in traditional attire, welcomed guests alongside son Joel. Speaking to the media, Heidi emphasized the importance of continuing their social work in the spirit of Franz: "We're not just blessed with sunshine; we also want to bring sunshine into the lives of those who are not as fortunate. It's a matter of the heart for us."

Joel, reflecting on the tournament idea, shared that his father's love for golf and charity were inseparable: "[Franz] loved playing golf and doing good, and we want to continue that in his name. We also want the guests to have a fun and unforgettable time." Did Joel inherit his father's passion for the sport? With a smile, he admitted, "Yes, we played together, but truth be told, I've never come close to his level."

Johannes B. Kerner (60), a TV presenter, moderated the gala evening with enthusiasm: "When Heidi calls, the 'no' button is off. I'm always happy to be here as a friend of Franz and his family."

Football legend Lothar Matthäus (64) was another prominent guest, yet he could only attend on Friday evening due to professional commitments. "My friendship with Franz and the whole family goes way back. They've always been there for me, and I'm proud to support the Foundation," he said.

Entrepreneur Falk Raudies and his wife Andrea were among the 130 guests, who, being close friends of the Beckenbauer family, were eager to lend their support to the cause. Hotelier Dieter Müller and his wife, Ursula Schelle-Müller, were pleased to have their resort serve as the venue for the event.

The weekend was packed with entertainment, including performances by The Hausbänd on Friday and Jimmie Wilson on Saturday, as well as a live painting by artist Ilona Griss-Schwarzler. Other high-profile guests, such as Julia Fleschenberg, Susanne Schäfer, winemaker Peter Heidecker, and Peter and Dagmar Mühlbacher, seemed to have had an enjoyable time engaging in the variety of programs.
