The Baumberge region was buzzing with runners last weekend as the 16th Nordkirchen Half Marathon and the 18th Volksbank-Baumberge Evening Run took place.
On Sunday, Joana Flanse completed the Nordkirchen Half Marathon in an impressive time of 2:00:50. Placing 37th among women overall and 14th in her age group, Joana showcased her determination and athletic prowess. Fellow runners Sabine Pinger and Todt G. Willingmann also participated in the event, with Sabine finishing in 2:01:28 and securing the silver medal in the W50 age group, as well as a 39th place finish among women overall.
The Nordkirchen Half Marathon started at 9:00 AM and consisted of two laps through the FC Nordkirchen stadium and a scenic course through the castle park and the village of Obsen. The weather during the race was changeable, with heavy rain initially and sunshine at the start. The course was mainly on asphalt with slight elevation and noticeable wind on open sections.
Todt used the 5 km run, which started at 6:15 PM on Friday at the 18th Volksbank-Baumberge Evening Run in Holthausen, as a pace check. He was satisfied with his swift start, which allowed him to overtake some runners in the first five kilometers. However, the double effort in the 5 km and 10 km runs made his legs heavy in the final kilometers of the 10 km run.
The 18th Volksbank-Baumberge Evening Run was part of the West Münsterland Running Series (WML). A strong competitor in Todt's age group won the 10 km run in a time of 38 minutes. Thomas Pinger, who also participated in the Nordkirchen Half Marathon, finished the 10 km run in the Volksbank-Baumberge Evening Run with a time of 42 minutes, placing well in his age group.
Unfortunately, the first turn of the 10 km run saw a fellow runner fall due to the wet grass. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.
These events brought excitement and camaraderie to the Baumberge region, with runners from various age groups and skill levels coming together to test their limits and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
