Gather for a balloon spectacle, tee off at the golf course during this year's Pinto Bean Fiesta
The 37th annual Pinto Bean Fiesta is set to take place in Moriarty from September 26, with the exact ending date yet to be announced. This much-anticipated event promises a delightful mix of traditional and unique activities for all ages.
Golf enthusiasts can participate in a special golf tournament, played on a nine-hole course set up in open pasture land near the Moriarty Civiv Center. The tournament, which uses a miniature soccer ball and a club with a wooden shoe on it, welcomes players of all ages and skill levels. Suggested donations for the tournament are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 15. Proceeds from this event will go towards the Rotary Club's nutritional backpack program at Moriarty Elementary School and the Rotary scholarship fund.
After the golf tournament, guests can enjoy a variety of activities. Food trucks will offer delicious options, while a beer garden will be available for those seeking refreshments. The Veterans of Foreign Wars car show will also take place, with the proceeds supporting veteran services. The day's entertainment will culminate with a performance from 7000 Feat.
However, two popular fiesta events - the Queen Bean contest and bean cook-off - will not take place this year but will return next year.
The fiesta will also feature hot air balloon events, including a Hot Air Balloon Glow at Sierra Blanca Brewery on September 26 from 6-8 p.m. and a balloon ascension on September 27 from 6-8 a.m. at the Civic Center parking lot.
On September 27, a parade along Route 66 through downtown Moriarty will take place at 10 a.m., with an airplane flyover at the parade's finale at City Park.
Eina Gomez, city of Moriarty office clerk, provided information about the events and activities during the fiesta. Gary King, past president of the Moriarty/Edgewood Rotary Club, and Dean Schwebach also shared their insights about the fiesta. Schwebach recalled a comical entry in a past parade featuring a "Queen Bean" contestant on a float with a toilet bowl strapped around her midsection referred to as a bean pot.
The organiser(s) of this year's 37th Pinto Bean Fiesta in Moriarty remains unspecified in the provided information.
