"When the crowd at Wembley's a bit on the quiet side, I've always been a cricket fan. Back in the day, I'd spend my entire childhood watching Test matches, from theKapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar era, and all. I've had the pleasure of knowing a lot of these legends and fellow England players over the years. Last year, Ben Stokes came over to have a chat with the team, and I've learned a fair bit from other coaches across sports, so that's why I'm here." Southgate shared in a video posted by IPL and Rajasthan Royals on social media.
'Across Sports': Southgate's Cricket Confessions
After sufferin' a gut-wrenchin' defeat in the Euros 2024 final against Spain, Southgate bid adieu to his position as England's football team manager. Prior to the Euros campaign, England Test cricket team captain Ben Stokes came by for a chat with the football team. Southgate recounted Stokes' special visit.
"Ben Stokes came and had a chinwag with the team last year. Across sports, you can learn a whole lot from one another, which is why I'm here," Southgate revealed.
Takin' a breather, Southgate mused on the importance of keepin' up with other sports, sharin' his thoughts on cricket during his time in India.
"Every sport's constantly evolvin', and there's always summat new to learn from coaches, medical teams, and so forth. I absolutely love the sport, and it's been an absolute pleasure to visit India for the first time. It's bloomin' amazing."
