ZDF Sunday Show: A Change in Hosts due to Israeli Airspace Closure

"Garden TV": Kiewel skips Mainz visit from Israel

Mainz/Tel Aviv – The ZDF show "Fernsehgarten" won’t be hosted by Andrea Kiewel in Mainz this Sunday, as announced on Saturday morning, thanks to the airspace closure over Israel. Residing in Tel Aviv, she won’t make it to the broadcasting center in Mainz-Lerchenberg. Stepping up to the plate instead will be Joachim Llambi (60) and Lutz van der Horst (49), who'll take charge of the show "exceptionally."

Originally, these familiar faces were lined up as guests for the show. Now, they step in as the show's temporary hosts[1].

Veteran since her 25th "Fernsehgarten" season, Andrea Kiewel is no stranger to the open-air show that’s been running since 1986. Before she got the hosting gig in 2000, stalwarts like Ilona Christen and Ramona Leiß had their turning on the stage.

The season kicked off on May 4 and is expected to run for 20 shows until September's end[2]. This Sunday (June 15), a special anniversary show for Kiwis was scheduled[3].

Featuring in the guest list for this Sunday's "Fernsehgarten" from midday are household names: Katja Ebstein, Marianne Rosenberg, Peter Schilling, Eko Fresh, Johnny Logan, Guildo Horn, Tom Gaebel, and Marquess[3].

Andrea Kiewel once shared with "Bild am Sonntag" her choicest hideaway in Israel, stating, "During the 'Fernsehgarten' season, I plan my journey so I board the plane on Sunday at 6 pm and find the key to my small apartment in Tel Aviv at midnight"[4].

While details about who will replace Andrea Kiewel are scant, updates from the ZDF could shed some light on the matter[2][4]. Stay tuned for further announcements!

On this special occasion, Joachim Llambi and Lutz van der Horst will take over the hosting duties for the "Fernsehgarten" show, replacing the usual host Andrea Kiewel, who was meant to appear as a guest alongside other entertainment figures like Katja Ebstein, Marianne Rosenberg, and Eko Fresh. The sudden change is due to the Israeli airspace closure, preventing Andrea Kiewel from returning to Mainz-Lerchenberg for the broadcast.
