🚚 FORTIFYING THE HEART OF TRANSPORT: A NEW 9.3 MILLION EURO GARAGE 🚚
Construction has commenced on a colossal garage for the central transport service, shelling out a substantial 9.3 million euros, as revealed by the Ministry of Infrastructure last Monday. This gargantuan garage will be erected on the Ministry of Finance's Erfurt campus.
Susanna Karawanskij, Minister of Infrastructure (from the Left Party), underscored its importance for the central transport service's efficiency before laying the foundation stone. According to Heike Taubert, Finance Minister from the SPD, this investment will generate the required capacity for the transport service.
The central transport service, nestled within the government campus, facilitates the transportation of materials, files, and an astounding 1.45 million items of mail annually. The service also manages self-drive service vehicles. This colossal hub previously used to be a Wehrmacht and then an NVA barracks site, refurbished back in the 1990s. The garage will replace the old armored halls, deemed economically unsustainable for renovation.
The new garage will occupy 2400 square meters and boasts a solar energy system on its rooftop. The construction is scheduled to conclude around fall 2024.
This mammoth garage aims to streamline traffic amidst the government campus, despite its substantial investment - construction costs not mentioned here. Traffic management appears confident that the new infrastructure will elevate the central transport service's efficiency.
