Galatasaray Pursues Goalkeeper Yann Sommer and Defender Benjamin Pavard in Summer Transfer Window

Turkish football club Galatasaray is actively seeking to bolster its squad, with a particular focus on the goalkeeper and defender positions. The Istanbul-based team is currently in negotiations with Inter Milan over a potential deal involving Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer and French defender Benjamin Pavard.

Yann Sommer and Pavard are part of a proposed package deal, with Galatasaray awaiting a response from Inter regarding the proposed transfer. Sommer, who currently plays for Inter, previously expressed his willingness to join Galatasaray if an agreement with Inter was reached.

Inter is looking to sell Pavard, with asking prices ranging from €15 million to €25 million as a final figure, given his contract runs until 2028. The defender, who won the World Cup in 2018, played an important role in Inter's 2023/24 Serie A title but struggled with injuries last season. Inter prefers to sell Pavard rather than promote younger defender Yann Aurel Bisseck, who is seen as a promising alternative and has a lower salary.

Pavard was bought from Bayern Munich for €31.4 million in 2023, and Inter wants to cash in while they still can. Other clubs like Marseille, Lille, and Saudi Arabia's NEOM have also shown interest, but Galatasaray remains a frontrunner. Negotiations are in the early stages but progressing positively.

Regarding Yann Sommer, Galatasaray previously attempted to sign him but did not succeed, and current reports do not indicate renewed talks or negotiations involving Sommer. The transfer focus is mainly on Pavard at this time.

Galatasaray is considering Sommer as an alternative to Wilfried Singo, whose potential move from Monaco remains uncertain. The Swiss goalkeeper offers versatility as he can play both centrally and on the wings as a defender.

Pavard's current market value is €25 million, while Sommer's contract with Inter Milan expires in 2028. The proposed deal with Inter is still dependent on Inter's response.

It's important to note that negotiations with Manchester City for Ederson have stalled, and there are no updates on the potential transfer of Galatasaray's first-choice goalkeeper.

This reflects the latest status of Galatasaray's transfer plans concerning these Inter Milan players as of August 2025. Galatasaray's pursuit of Sommer and Pavard is a significant step towards strengthening its squad for the upcoming season.

  1. Galatasaray is focusing on Turkey's football leagues for potential reinforcements, as they actively seek goalkeeper Yann Sommer and defender Benjamin Pavard in the transfer window.
  2. The negotiations for Pavard with Inter Milan are in progress, with Galatasaray showing interest despite other clubs like Marseille, Lille, and NEOM also expressing interest in the defender.
