Galatasaray Concerned About Osimhen's Health Following Devastating UCL Loss
Galatasaray's decision to play without their star striker, Victor Osimhen, proved costly as they faced a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt in their Champions League opener. Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray for a record €75 million from Napoli this summer, was sidelined due to an injury sustained during a World Cup qualifier against Rwanda on September 6. He injured his left ankle and suffered a moderate sprain with ligament bleeding, preventing him from playing in the following matches, including the Champions League game against Frankfurt. Initially, there was hope for a quick return for Osimhen, but he wasn't ready in time for the crucial encounter. In an attempt to get back in form, Osimhen tried to practice for the last two days before the game, but the feedback from him was not enough to play. Galatasaray, thus, decided not to risk him and left him out of the roster. Osimhen's absence was evident as Galatasaray struggled to create chances against a resilient Frankfurt defence. The goals came from Can Uzun, Jonathan Burkardt (two), Ansgar Knauff, and a Davinson Sanchez own goal. Despite the disappointing result, Galatasaray manager, Okan Buruk, remains optimistic about Osimhen's recovery. He revealed that the Nigerian international simply wasn't ready to play due to the injury. The club and the national team are awaiting further medical evaluation to determine the severity of the injury and are hoping for a quick recovery to avoid a long-term absence. Meanwhile, Galatasaray will focus on their domestic campaign, with their next match scheduled against Konyaspor on Monday. Osimhen, who has already scored twice in three Super Lig games this term, will be eager to return and help his team in their quest for success in both the domestic and European competitions. In the meantime, Galatasaray's manager, Okan Buruk, has praised Osimhen's professionalism and dedication, describing him as an actor in a character for the team. No information was provided about the Champions League standings or any updates regarding Ademola Lookman, Atalanta, or other teams.
