State Banquet at Windsor Castle: A Medieval-Meets-Modern Spectacle

King Charles III welcomed US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump to a grand state banquet at Windsor Castle this week, marking a significant moment in Anglo-American relations. The event, which was attended by 160 guests, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the Prince and Princess of Wales (William and Kate), and top executives from Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, and OpenAI, was a fusion of medieval splendour and modern glamour.

The atmosphere in St. George’s Hall, where the banquet was held, was described by the British Broadcasting Corporation as a mix of a medieval banquet and a "Harry Potter" film. The grand hall, adorned with ornate chandeliers and intricate tapestries, set the stage for an unforgettable evening.

The three-course menu for the banquet was nothing short of exquisite. It began with Panna Cotta of watercress with Parmesan tuile, followed by a salad of quail eggs, Bio chicken ballotine wrapped in zucchini, and concluded with vanilla ice cream with a filling of raspberry sorbet and lightly poached plums. To accompany the meal, a special cocktail was served - a smoky whisky with citrus notes from marmalade, pecan foam, and garnished with toasted marshmallow on a biscuit.

During the banquet, Donald Trump reportedly told Duchess Kate that she was "breathtakingly beautiful." The encounter was described as "warm and friendly." Trump also spoke highly of Prince William and Kate, saying that Charles had "raised an exceptional son" whose wife is "so radiant and so healthy, so breathtakingly beautiful."

After lunch, William and Kate had a private meeting with the President and his wife, according to "People" magazine. The Trumps also visited St. George’s Chapel and the late Queen Elizabeth II’s grave in the afternoon, where they laid a wreath.

In his speech at the state banquet, Trump spoke of his great respect for King Charles III and for Britain. He described the visit as a "great honor." The "Daily Mail" reported that during their visit to the Queen's grave, the Trumps spent about ten minutes in silent prayer.

Other prominent guests at the Windsor Castle state banquet included US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Trump’s daughter Tiffany, and media mogul Rupert Murdoch. Other royals present included Princess Anne and her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence.

The state banquet under King Charles III marked a significant moment in the history of Anglo-American relations. With its blend of medieval grandeur and modern glamour, it was a fitting tribute to the enduring bond between the two nations.
