Gahr High Baseball Kicks Off Gateway League Action with a Clean Slate

The Gahr High School baseball team is ready to make a splash in the Gateway League after a successful run in summer tournaments. Despite not having any league wins yet, the team has shown resilience and determination, winning their last three games of the Boras Baseball Classic and three of four in The National Classic.

The comeback against Paramount High on March 19, 2023, was a testament to this determination. The game started on a tough note, with Gahr trailing 1-0 after the first inning. However, junior first baseman Bryce Morrison led off with a double in the second inning, setting the stage for a comeback. Morrison later scored, and the team never looked back.

Sophomore right fielder Evan Javier, junior catcher Nathan Guangorena, senior pinch hitter Ben Heapy, senior pinch hitter Jake Ourique, junior third baseman Andres Gonzalez, junior second baseman Julian Lucero, senior designated hitter Adrien Ramirez, and Morrison again all contributed to the comeback with hits or walks. Twelve Gahr batters went to the plate during the comeback, demonstrating the team's depth and hitting power.

Gahr's head coach, Gerardo Perez, expressed confidence in his team's ability to come back from deficits. He noted that the team has more hitters than in the past, and emphasized the importance of patience for the team.

The win improved Gahr's record to 6-7. Loren Kopff, who often covers Gahr's baseball games in various publications, reported on the victory.

Gahr High previously won the San Gabriel Valley League baseball championship in 2019. The team's success continued in 2025, with a victory in the Boras Baseball Classic consolation championship and the final game of The National Classic against La Habra High with a score of 9-7 on April 6 and April 9, respectively.

However, the team's non-league schedule is considered brutal. In the Newport Elks Tournament, Gahr's four-game winning streak was stopped. Despite this setback, the team rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the consolation championship of the Boras Baseball Classic on March 28, 2025.

The team's 2025 schedule is rated as the third toughest schedule in high school baseball, according to MaxPreps.com. As the Gateway League season begins, Gahr High School baseball is poised to take on the challenges ahead with their resilience and determination.

Local sports enthusiasts and community news followers can look forward to updates about Gahr High School's baseball team as they embark on their Gateway League season with a clean slate. The team's determination and resilience, showcased in events like their comeback against Paramount High, is expected to be a key factor in their league games.
