Gaël Monfils to Retire at End of 2026 Season
Veteran tennis player Gaël Monfils, aged 39, has announced his retirement plans. The Frenchman, who has played professionally for two decades, will step away from the sport at the end of the 2026 season to pave the way for the next generation, including Gen Z players.
Monfils, who has reached two Grand Slam semifinals in his career, has no regrets about his time on the court. Despite not winning a Grand Slam title, he considers his career successful. He has played alongside tennis legends such as Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, and Murray, and has reached 22 finals, winning 13 individual titles.
In January 2023, Monfils made history by becoming the oldest player to win an ATP title, a remarkable achievement at the age of 36.
Gaël Monfils will retire at the end of the 2026 season, leaving behind a legacy of determination and excellence. His contributions to tennis will be remembered, and his retirement will open doors for the next generation of players, including Gen Z.
