GAC Set to Launch in New Zealand with Diverse EV and PHEV Lineup in December 2025
Chinese automobile giant GAC is set to enter the New Zealand market in December 2025, bringing breaking news to the automotive industry. The fifth-largest carmaker in China, GAC is known for its electric vehicles and will launch under the unified GAC nameplate.
GAC's initial lineup in New Zealand will include three models. The Aion V, a mid-size electric SUV, boasts a 150kW motor and up to 510km WLTP range. The GS3 Emzoom, a compact petrol-powered SUV, features a 125kW/270Nm turbocharged 1.5-litre engine. The luxurious M8, a seven-seater plug-in hybrid, offers a 274kW/630Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol powertrain and up to 106km of electric-only range.
GAC's diverse portfolio includes brands like Aion, Hycan, and Trumpchi, and luxury marque Hyptec, which produces the electric supercar SSR. The company also has joint ventures with major automakers like Toyota, Honda, and Mitsubishi. GAC sold over 2.1 million vehicles in 2021, demonstrating its global competitiveness.
