Diamond in the Rough: Gabe Taylor Joins the Commanders

Gabe Taylor, the little brother of the legendary Sean Taylor, is set to make his mark on the Washington Commanders. After going undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, Taylor inked a free agent deal and will attend the Commanders' Rookie Minicamp next month.

Sean Taylor, a two-time Pro Bowl defensive back, donned the Commanders' jersey before his untimable death in 2007. The No. 5 overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft, Taylor left behind a lasting legacy that Gabe will have the chance to honor.

Born and bred on the gridiron, Gabe played five seasons at Rice University, where he established himself as a versatile defender. He led the Owls with 57 tackles, three interceptions, and 10 passes defended last season, tying for the team lead in sacks (3) and TFLs (7). Taylor's standout performance earned him second-team All-AAC honors in 2024, one year after he was named honorable mention All-AAC.

Gabe clocked a blistering 4.38 seconds in the 40-yard dash at Rice's Pro Day, impressing scouts and showcasing his speed and agility. Despite his impressive performance, Taylor was not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine.

With offers on the table, Gabe chose to carry on Sean's legacy in Washington. He aims to embody the role player mentality, focusing on competition and team contribution rather than individual glory.

Of course, nothing is guaranteed for Gabe in the NFL. However, he'll get his shot to prove himself when the Commanders' minicamp kicks off on May 8.
