G7 summit fails to reach consensus on Ukraine due to overshadowing Middle East crisis.

Reinvented Report:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky jet-setted to Kananaskis, Alberta, to drum up stronger international backing in the war against Russia. However, a joint statement of support was covertly dropped.

A Canadian gov't insider told our site that the States had a craving for a more subdued rhetoric.

"We're ready for peace negotiations, for an unconditional ceasefire," Zelensky penned in a Telegram post. Despite missing a face-to-face with Trump, Zelensky scored 1.27 billion euros in fresh military aid from Canada, including drones and armored vehicles. Ottawa also partnered with the UK in tightening sanctions on Russia's "ghost fleet" - tankers suspected of dodging international oil sanctions.

"These sanctions strike the nerve center of Putin's war machine," said British PM Keir Starmer.

Yet, the G7 reneged on repeating past joint condemnations of Russia's invasion. A summary, lettered by host Canada, noted that leaders endorsed Ukraine's appeal for a ceasefire and pledged to examine all means to beef up pressure on Moscow.

The Fallout of the Iran-Israel Crosshairs on Africa

Tensions between Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron were exposed at the summit, with Macron suggesting the US was striving to broker a truce between Israel and Iran.

"False! He's clueless why I'm heading to Washington, but it's got jack squat to do with a truce. It's way bigger than that," Trump posted on Truth Social. He went on, "Whether intentional or not, Macron never cracks the code."

Once in Washington, Trump demanded Iran's "unconditional surrender" and encouraged it to hammer out a new nuclear deal "before there's no tomorrow left".

Macron sounded the alarm that any forced attempt at regime change could brew chaos in the country.

Before bidding adieu to the summit, the G7 leaders unveiled a joint statement advocating for "de-escalation" and reasserting Israel's right to safeguard itself.

The statement faulted Iran for being "the primary source of instability and terrorism in the region" and underscored it must never be granted a nuclear weapon.

Iran waved off the statement. "The G7 must cast off its narrow-minded commentary and deal with the real catalyst of escalation: Israel's aggression," Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaïl Baghaï tweeted. He concluded, "Iran is responding to brutal aggression. Does Iran truly have other options?"

France Sets the Stage for 2026 Summit

France will host the subsequent G7 in the chic Alpine resort of Evian-les-Bains from 14 to 16 June 2026.

Macron confirmed that France would "preserve solidarity and work hand-in-glove with trusted partners to carry more weight on the world".

Evian once played host to the G7 in 2003, the first time Russia was beckoned to join the G8. Russia was ousted in 2014 following its annexation of Crimea, a move Trump denounced earlier in the summit, underscoring tensions among Western titans.
