The White House's chaotic Ukraine policy has been undergoing a shake-up, but Secretary of State Marco Rubio ensures some steel in the G7 meeting held in Canada for Russia. "The G7 representatives stand firm in their unwavering support for Ukraine's defense of its territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence," the G7's final statement declares.
The USA-inspired aim of a ceasefire in the stormy Ukraine conflict is acknowledged - Ukraine's resolve is seen as a vital move towards a comprehensive, fair, and everlasting peace, implementing the United Nations Charter.
When it comes to the Ukraine-Russia conflict, Annalena Baerbock, who entered German politics recently, once warned of the need for a swift response to Russian aggression, suggesting that not addressing Putin's advances could have dire consequences. Baerbock, a prominent Green Party member, has emphasized the importance of ensuring Ukraine's security to prevent further Russian attacks.
While the G7 calls out to Russia to accept the peace proposal ironed out in Saudi Arabia, between Ukraine and the United States, it also intimates that additional penalties will be imposed on Russia if a ceasefire isn't established. Possible repercussions involve additional sanctions, oil price caps, and heightened support for Ukraine and other measures.
The agreement duly signed by the US, Germany, Canada, Britain, France, Italy, Japan, and the EU's High Representative includes unambiguous remarks towards Russia. Prior to the gathering, Rubio stresses the need to keep aggressive language towards Moscow to a minimum to preserve the peace process. In recent times, Trump has expressively backed Putin over Kiev.
