FX Greenlights 'Very Young Frankenstein' Comedy Pilot
FX has greenlit a pilot for 'Very Young Frankenstein', a comedy inspired by Mel Gibson's 1974 classic 'Young Frankenstein'. The show is executive produced by Mel Gibson himself, along with writer/showrunner Stefani Robinson and director Taika Waititi. The pilot has an impressive cast, including Zach Galifianakis, fresh from Disney's 'Lilo & Stitch'.
The pilot episode introduces Abraham von Frankenstein, played by Gene Wilder in the original movie, now portrayed by Zach Galifianakis. The cast also includes Dolly Wells, known for HBO's 'Doll & Em', and Spencer House, whose credits include 'Tell Me Lies' and 'The Society'. Kumail Nanjiani and Cary Elwes, both veterans of Mel Gibson productions, have joined the cast alongside Nikki Crawford.
Development began in June, with plot and character details kept under wraps. Mel Gibson is joined by executive producers Garrett Basch, Kevin Salter, and Michael Gruskoff. The original movie was a comedic parody of monster movies from the 1930s, and it remains to be seen how the new series will pay homage to or reinvent that classic formula.
With a talented cast and crew, including Mel Gibson as an executive producer, 'Very Young Frankenstein' promises to be an exciting addition to FX's comedy lineup. Fans of the original movie and new viewers alike can look forward to the pilot, though details about the plot remain mysterious for now.
