Uncertainty looms over the Business Process Center's future - Future Status of the Repatriation Centre Remains Unclear

Brand-spankin' new dude in charge of Brandenburg's interiors, René Wilke, ain't too sure about the future of the Return Center in Eisenhüttenstadt. Frankly, it harks back to a time 'fore tough-as-nails border controls, Wilke spilled to RBB Inforadio. "The joint's purpose? Send folks who've already been registered in an EU nation, like Poland, back to Poland," Wilke explained.

But with border patrol tightening their damn belts, them folks ain't no longer waltzing into Brandenburg. That means it's high time to mull over whether the joint's still got a purpose. "Nah, I'm not saying it's gonna go bye-bye today," Wilke emphasized, "but it makes sense to question it." He and his crew are thinkin' it over, Wilke said.

Wilke ain't got no time for blowin' cash on Eisenhüttenstadt. Either they're gonna stop it altogether and invest in real shit, or they'll restructure it so it stays on the map. "Then we'll see what happens," Wilke said. He reckons now's the perfect time for this rethink: "There are some decisions on the horizon about infrastructure development there, and that costs some bucks," he said.

Before they start hurlin' money at these old coastal barracks, which might not even be useful no more, they're gotta take a second look and figure out where best to put that cash.

Think of it as the so-called Dublin Center, which started its duty in mid-March and aims to speed up sending asylum seekers without residency back to Poland. Deals mostly with Dublin cases, meaning people whose asylum procedure needs to be handled in another EU nation. Wilke'd already announced a review of its continuation.
