Future potential of the "red sphere"
The iconic "Red Ball" artwork, which once graced the Richthofenstraße roundabout, is set for a new beginning in the city of Detmold. Artist Gabriele Staarmann and Mayor Frank Hilker have agreed to reinstall the artwork, symbolising a fresh start for the beloved piece.
In a dramatic turn of events, the approximately 2-ton heavy structure was deliberately released from its securing on May 11, rolling onto the Nordring street, potentially causing life-threatening danger. Thankfully, it ended up on the right side of the road without causing significant further damage.
On the same day, THW Detmold and THW Bielefeld, secured by the police, removed the structure and brought it to the city's building yard for safekeeping. The current location of the "Red Ball" is now protected from further mischief.
The artist and the mayor have agreed that the artwork should be rebuilt at another location in Detmold. However, the decision regarding the new location remains undecided at this time. New ideas and concepts for the new installation will be developed together.
A meeting was held at the Detmold town hall to discuss the future procedure of the "Red Ball". The contact for inquiries regarding the artwork is Thorsten Engelhardt, who can be reached at 05231 977 105.
The "Red Ball" experienced a viral career on the internet after its removal from the original location, capturing the attention of people worldwide. The pylons that held the artwork at the Richthofenstraße roundabout will be provided with a new installation at their location, ensuring that the legacy of the "Red Ball" continues to live on in Detmold.
The reinstallation of the "Red Ball" artwork in the city area of Detmold marks a new beginning for the beloved piece, and the city is eager to see where this iconic symbol will take them next.
