Henkersfest Moves to Old Town Amid Safety Concerns and Weather Challenges

The much-loved Henkersfest, a local festival known for its peaceful atmosphere, good music, and international food, has recently relocated from its traditional home at Wilhelmsplatz to the Old Town. This shift comes following safety concerns and unfavourable weather conditions that have impacted the festival's organisation and attendance.

Safety Concerns and Relocation

Over the years, Henkersfest has experienced issues with overcrowding, limited space for emergency services, and inadequate infrastructure to manage sound levels and waste. These concerns, coupled with minor injuries reported in previous events, led local authorities to relocate the festival to a more spacious and better-equipped venue in the Old Town.

Impact of Relocation

The move to the Old Town has brought about several changes. On one hand, local residents in the Wilhelmsplatz area will experience reduced noise and foot traffic during festival periods. On the other hand, some vendors and nearby businesses may see a decline in festival-related revenue due to the relocation. However, attendees will enjoy improved comfort and safety in the new venue.

Weather Challenges

Unfavourable weather conditions have also posed challenges for this year's Henkersfest. Lightning, thunder, and heavy rain have kept kids away, affecting the overall attendance. The festival has had to clear the place half an hour earlier on the first two days and only gets an extra hour on the other two days, due to the city's new rule enforcing early closure, which is being applied to Henkersfest first.

Festival Highlights

Despite the challenges, Henkersfest has managed to gain momentum, with Sascha manning the entrance at the height of Jakobstraße and operating the tap, and Sannah & Friends leading with the song "I will survive!" during their performance on a stage. The Chord'n Bleu trio also provided music in front of the Leonhardskirche. A variety of international food stands have been active during the festival.

Future Plans

Organizers plan to make Henkersfest an annual event at the Old Town, with a focus on improving crowd management and safety protocols, collaborating with local emergency services, and engaging with the community for feedback. Potential adjustments to festival scheduling and event layout may also be made to further enhance safety and attendee experience.

For more detailed information about the specific new venue, dates, or safety guidelines, please refer to the official festival organizers or municipal announcements.

Despite the relocation, attendees of Henkersfest can still expect an enjoyable experience with entertainment, as Sascha manning the entrance, Sannah & Friends performing, and the Chord'n Bleu trio providing music remain a part of the festival. However, the change in location has brought about a shift in noise levels and foot traffic for local residents in Wilhelmsplatz, while some vendors and nearby businesses may see a decline in festival-related revenue.
