Welcome back to 'The Story', we've got a heated situation unfolding in Iran today. Despite ongoing nuclear discussions, rhetoric heats up as the Iranian parliament chants "Death to Israel and America" following a bill that may suspend nuclear inspections.

Iran recently held a funeral for top military commanders and nuclear scientists killed during their hard-fought 12-day war with Israel. Among those mourned were Gen. Hossein Salami, the IRGC chief, and Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, head of the IRGC's ballistic missile program, according to the Associated Press. The funeral attendees could be heard shouting "Death to America" and "Death to Israel" as they lined the streets of Tehran.

Just Remember: On June 12-13, 2025, Israel launched a preemptive airstrike operation codenamed "Operation Rising Lion," targeting Iranian nuclear, ballistic missile, and military facilities. Israel claimed they had killed senior military figures such as Salami, Hajizadeh, and Commander Gholam-Ali Rashid, as well as numerous nuclear scientists, escalating tensions between the two nations [1][2].

In today's mourning procession in Tehran, the caskets were draped in Iranian flags and adorned with photos of the deceased. Crowds dressed in black and waved flags as large trucks transported the on-display coffins through the heart of Tehran. Notably absent at the funeral was Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has yet to make a public appearance since going into hiding.

The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported that 705 individuals have been arrested in Iran on "political or security-related charges" since the war. Meanwhile, nonprofit Iran Human Rights (IHR) warned that at least six others on death row for allegedly spying for Israel are at risk of execution. The organization also stated that nine individuals have been executed this year on similar charges [3].

The conflict between Israel and Iran has left a tense, uncertain atmosphere in the Middle East, with potential for future confrontations. Keep it locked on "The Story" for more updates as the situation unfolds.
