Fundraising Event: Contributing for a Noble Undertaking
On a scorching Wednesday afternoon, all eyes were on the sports field at Sentruper Höhe. The prince's men of Münster from 1896 and the 1st German-Dutch Corps (1GNC) squared off on the football pitch. It wasn't just for the thrill of the game; this time, they were playing for a purpose! All entry fees and refreshment sales went towards the charitable work of the Bundeswehr Social Welfare.
The idea for this unique jamboree stemmed from a ten-year-old bond, forged by the annual festivities on Weiberfastnacht. Every year, the reigning Prince Carnival storms offices and institutions across the city, backed by his Prince's Guard. One such target was the 1st German-Dutch Corps stationed at Schlossplatz, the coordinators of NATO deployments in Europe. Through their yearly "Storming the Corps", a strong bond was sealed, ultimately leading to the concept of a joint charity event.
According to General Prince Marshal Mario Engbers, football proved to be the perfect choice due to the friendly rivalry between Germany and the Netherlands on the pitch and the 1GNC's already established team. But the Prince's Guard lacked its own squad. Thus, a selection team was formed from volunteers within the Prince's Guard (PG), Youth Prince's Guard (JuPriGa), and "friends."
With sun protection gear in hand, both teams took the pitch at 5:45 PM. A lively crowd of carnival enthusiasts, predominantly supporters of the "fan club," eagerly awaited the kick-off. The honors fell to Christian II. Grünfeld, the Prince in Lying-in-Wait and Prince Carnival of the 2026 session. Despite the sweltering heat, the teams played with high spirits. The Prince's Guard struck first through Jens Henrotte, a member of the "Young Spirit" subgroup of KG Bad Spirits.
The 1GNC team responded with an equalizer in the second half. PG keeper Bert Müller, the current youth prince, had no answer. But spirits remained high among the PG crowd, fueled by carnival tunes and cool refreshments. The audience erupted in cheers again when Erik Neufeld, an employee at HRC Security and one of the "friends," put the Prince's Guard back in the lead. Matthias Reck, the Adjutant of the current Prince Sascha I., added another goal, making it 3:1. The royal goal parade was finalized by a score from Young Spirit Max Michels, ending the game 4:1 in favor of the Prince's Guard!
While the final score was significant, the true victory lay in the total donation amount: 1000 € collected for charity – a victory truly worth applauding!
