In a heartwarming display of community spirit, a charity organ concert is set to take place in Grimma's Frauenkirche on Sunday, 27th August. The event, organised by the Grimma parish, marks the start of the Organ Autumn of the parish and aims to raise funds for the restoration of the Protestant church in Großröhrsdorf, which was largely destroyed by fire on the night of 3rd to 4th August.

The concert will feature performances on the Eule organ in Grimma's Frauenkirche, an instrument boasting around 2000 pipes made of metal, wood, and leather. The organ is controlled by compressed air, providing a unique and captivating sound for the audience.

The programme for the evening includes works by renowned composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Maximilian Reger, and Fritz Lubrich, as well as improvisations. Although the specific composer for the concert in Großröhrsdorf has not been explicitly mentioned, it is expected that Bach's compositions will be a significant part of the performance, given his historical significance.

Sadly, the fire that ravaged the church in Großröhrsdorf resulted in the loss of many historic art treasures and wooden architectural elements, including the baptismal font and basin, pulpit, organs, galleries, a 15th-century carved Madonna, and a replica of the altar of Leipzig's Thomaskirche. Despite this, the outer walls of the nave remain, and the bell tower has been shortened.

Admission to the concert is free, and donations will be gratefully accepted to support the restoration efforts. The funds raised will go towards rebuilding the church in Großröhrsdorf, ensuring that this important piece of local history can be preserved for future generations.

The concert in Grimma's Frauenkirche serves as a symbol of unity and resilience in the face of adversity, bringing together music lovers and supporters of the church in Großröhrsdorf for an evening of beautiful music and shared purpose.
