Fundraising Advancement for Big Horn Indoor Arena

In the heart of Sheridan County, exciting developments are underway for the Indoor Recreation and Early Learning Center. This ambitious project, led by the Big Horn Baseball Club, aims to raise funds for a 33,000 square-foot facility that combines indoor recreation with early learning spaces.

Currently, pre-schoolers in the Big Horn area are being taught in repurposed rooms inside Big Horn Elementary and Middle Schools. However, the new facility will provide a separate learning space for young students away from older students, with four designated classrooms designed specifically for pre-school programs.

Once completed, the new facility will be turned over to the Sheridan County School District #1 Recreation District. The schools may need to use these repurposed rooms sometime in the future.

The Indoor Recreation and Early Learning Center will offer a plethora of opportunities for fitness activities and indoor sports like basketball and volleyball. It will also include indoor facilities for sports, fitness activities, and an indoor turf area. The new facility will help improve the health of children by reducing their travel time for activities.

In addition, the center will serve as a community hub, offering a walking track, fitness and weight rooms, and a space for various community activities. Organizers anticipate breaking ground on the new facility in either the winter or spring of next year.

As of early August 2025, the Big Horn Baseball Club has raised approximately 71% of the $6.5 million required to build the Indoor Recreation and Early Learning Center. With significant progress indicated, it is likely that construction and completion would follow within the next 1-2 years, depending on the remaining funds and planning phases. The expected completion date has not been explicitly stated, but official updates would be necessary for a precise timeline.

The new facility will be located behind the Big Horn High School football field press box. The Indoor Recreation and Early Learning Center, if built, will provide a much-needed solution to the lack of designated space for general activities and pre-school education in the area.

Kendra Barney, the Early Childhood Coordinator for Sheridan County School District #1, is eager for the new facility. "This will be a game-changer for our young students," she said. "Having a dedicated space for pre-school programs will greatly enhance our early childhood education."

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project!
