Tipt Ventures Launches with a Focus on Empowering Women in the Sports Economy

Tipt Ventures, a new venture capital fund, has been established with a mission to reimagine the sports economy by centering women. The fund, led by managing partners Austin-based Ami Galani and Atlanta-based Fielding Jamieson, aims to increase women's engagement with the sports economy.

The fund's strategy is centered around early-stage investments in women-focused sports startups. Tipt Ventures will support companies that are women-led or specifically target women’s participation and influence in sports, encompassing areas like sports media, fan engagement, athletes’ business opportunities, and gender equity in sports.

The fund's key focus areas include building companies that empower women in sports and related sectors, leveraging the largely untapped potential of women as consumers, athletes, and entrepreneurs in sports to drive innovation and build new revenue streams within the sector.

Tipt Ventures is not pursuing ownership in sports franchises. Instead, the fund is looking for businesses that can meet current or near-term needs, with potential investments ranging from $500,000 to $1 million. Potential portfolio companies should already have revenue and be able to address an unmet need.

The Trailblazer portfolio, a partnership between Galani and Jamieson, focuses on the intersection of women and sports. The portfolio includes investments in Canopy Team, The Gist, and Ida Sports, among others. Tipt's first investment will be in Ida Sports, a company that manufactures cleats specifically for women.

The initial fundraising for Tipt Ventures includes money raised from sports executives, seasoned VC backers, and retail investors. Galani and Jamieson have secured investments through the Trailblazer portfolio. Tipt is seeking a total capital of $50 million, and while the initial fundraising amount isn't being disclosed, Galani stated it is a meaningful milestone.

Tipt Ventures aims to help portfolio companies grow into nice, healthy businesses, and is not focused on lottery ticket-like returns from one company. The fund is dedicated to putting women at the center of the sports experience. Tipt will announce the news of their fundraise later on Thursday.
