In the heart of Germany, the city of Detmold is making waves with its unique approach to creating affordable housing and sustainable city districts. Known as the "Detmold Model," this innovative strategy has proven to be a quick and sustainable solution to local housing shortages.

The city's partnership with Pyramis Immobilien Entwicklungs GmbH, a key player in the success of the Detmold Model, is noteworthy. This collaboration has enabled the swift establishment of municipal housing cooperatives, which are exempt from public procurement law, thus streamlining the development process.

One of the latest projects under the Detmold Model is the new Kita Siegfriedstraße kindergarten. To symbolise the importance of good kindergarten infrastructure for the living and housing quality of families, oversized construction toilets have been installed. These unique facilities are not just functional; they are designed to playfully introduce children to the topic of construction.

Mayor Frank Hilker, a strong advocate for Detmold's pioneering role in creating sustainable, climate-friendly, and affordable housing, symbolically handed over the oversized construction toilets to the kindergarten. This gesture underscored the future viability of the project and fostered creativity among the young minds.

Kindergartens are considered crucial for the success of sustainable urban development in Detmold. The city has developed a successful approach to creating affordable housing and sustainable city districts, and kindergartens are an integral part of this vision.

The city contributes land as a capital contribution to the cooperatives and retains influence on housing, family, and urban planning policies. This ensures that the development aligns with the city's vision for sustainable and affordable housing.

Two prominent examples of quick creation of high-quality, affordable housing in Detmold are the Britensiedlung and the Breitefeld. Prices at these developments stand at 6.30 euros and 8.50 euros per square meter respectively.

The Detmold Model aims for cost-covering operation to ensure permanently low rents. This approach has been used to create affordable housing for families, students, and apprentices. The model has been a resounding success, offering quick, sustainable solutions to housing shortages locally.

However, the city of Detmold demands clear and reliable financing and planning security from both the federal government of Germany and the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia to fully realize the successes and goals of the "Detmold Model" in housing and urban development.

Notable revitalization projects under the Detmold Model include the transformation of the "Alte Ziegelei" industrial area into a sustainable business park. This project, like many others, is a testament to Detmold's commitment to sustainable urban development and affordable housing.

The new Kita Siegfriedstraße kindergarten, represented by director Angelika Stölting, is a shining example of the Detmold Model's impact on the city. With its oversized construction toilets and commitment to quality, it stands as a beacon of Detmold's innovative approach to creating a better future for its residents.
