Füchse Berlin's B Team Secures Easy Victory Against Izvidac
Füchse Berlin's handball team notched up yet another win in the European League. On a chilly Tuesday evening, the German Bundesliga club outplayed Bosnia-Herzegovina's underdogs, HC Izvidac, in front of 3,922 passionate fans at the Max-Schmeling-Halle. The final score read a dominant 34-23 (16-15) in favor of Berlin. The group triumph and progression were already assured, but the Berliners still managed to deliver an impressive performance.
Coach Jaron Siewert was without the services of Mathias Gidsel, Lasse Andersson, Mijajlo Marsenic, Dejan Milodsavljev, and Hans Lindberg – five key players who had been heavily worked lately. Despite their absence, Keeper Viktor Kireev made a triumphant return from injury as the majority of the squad consisted of players from cooperation partner 1. VfL Potsdam and the second team.
The Berlin B-team started the game on fire, racing to a 5-1 lead. However, the inexperience of the young team soon proved their undoing. A 0-5 scoring run by Izvidac levelled the game before the break.
After the interval, the Berliners regrouped and went into attack mode. Berlins B-Elf went on a rampant 9-0 scoring run, leaving Izvidac gasping for breath. It took the visitors over nine minutes to register their first score post-half time. The German side then cruised to a comfortable victory.
The main group stage of the EHF European League commences in the New Year. Tim Freihöfer, one of Berlin's top-performing players, was instrumental in the victory, top-scoring with an impressive six goals.
Despite the dominance displayed by Berlin, they had to endure the absence of several players due to heavy strain, thus paving the way for Viktor Kireev's return from injury.
