In a significant development, President Bola Tinubu reinstated Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, after a six-month suspension. However, Governor Fubara has yet to make a public appearance or officially announce his resumption.

During an interview with Channels Television's Politics Today on Thursday, former Governor Nyesom Wike promised to give Fubara a free hand to govern the state and make it better than he found it. Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, also vowed never to impose commissioners on Fubara. He stated that he has no candidate for commissioners in Rivers State.

Wike, who left office in May 2023, has claimed that he left the state in a condition where it can compete favourably with the USA. He has challenged anyone to contest against him regarding his contributions to Rivers State. Interestingly, he has also promised that if Fubara presents candidates for commissioners and the state budget on the day of his reinstatement, all would be approved without delay.

Despite these assurances, no information was provided about Fubara contesting for a second term or his participation in the Rivers LG election. Similarly, no information was provided about any clash between Wike and Fubara, or Fubara's absence from the Government House after Tinubu's reinstatement.

Lastly, Wike believes that he has worked hard to maintain the current level of competition between Rivers State and Lagos. It remains to be seen how Fubara will build upon this foundation and lead the state forward. As the dust settles, we await Governor Fubara's official resumption and his plans for the state.
