Fubara Emerges in Public for First Time Following UK Journey

After a two-week break in the UK, suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara made his first public appearance, gracing the Boys Brigade Metropolitan Battalion Council Nigeria's special 2025 Thanksgiving Service. The event took place at St. Cyprain's Church, Anglican Communion in Port Harcourt on Sunday.

The religious gathering, led by Diocesan Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Oko-Jaja, aimed to celebrate the Boys Brigade's successful religious camp activities in the state. Fubara, accompanied by Amaopusenibo Fubara Hart and Dr Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja, was the highlight of the occasion, with a special prayer offered for his well-being, family, and the state's peace.

This public appearance comes amidst allegations from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who accused Fubara of disrupting a empowerment program for women in Port Harcourt, organized by the office of Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. Yet, no concrete evidence has surfaced to support these claims, adding to the political uncertainty in Rivers State.

As relations between the two leaders remain strained, recent developments have shed light on other aspects of the power struggle. For instance, former Port Harcourt LGA Chairman Ezebunwo Ichemati recently dismissed rumors of Fubara's reconciliation efforts, terming them as baseless.

Moreover, reports emerged that Fubara visited Wike in Abuja on April 18, 2025, seeking reconciliation. The meeting, which was reportedly followed by Fubara prostrating before Wike, seemed to be an attempt to resolve the conflict[5].

Amid the political tension, Fubara has continued to emphasize his commitment to workers' rights and expressed optimism that "justice, peace, and progress will prevail" in the state[4].
