Governor Fubara Stands Firm: Denies APC Defection Plans
Fubara Discusses Leaving PDP for APC Party Transfer
Contrary to speculative online reports, Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, has emphatically rejected allegations that he is planning to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to our sources, whispers have circulated about Fubara, along with Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, and potential plans to switch parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, these are mere rumors as of now.
Lending his voice on the matter, Jerry Omatsogunwa, Special Assistant on Electronic Media to Governor Fubara, dismissed the claims in a conversation with DAILY POST on April 24, 2025. He reiterated that, as things stand, Fubara remains a loyal member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Omatsogunwa expressed his doubts about the governor's awareness of the rumored defection, stating that he has not discussed such a move. He added that the PDP membership remains unchanged and nothing suggests a switch at present.
In his words, "I doubt if the governor is even aware of the rumoured defection right now that he wants to defect. I doubt if the governor is aware.
"As it stands now, we are still members of the PDP, and nothing has changed as far as we are concerned right now. That is the stance of things right now.
"For now, as we are talking, the governor has not talked about defection. He is still a bona fide member of the PDP.
"And I can tell you for free that the governor, our Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is the Deputy Chairman of the PDP Governor's Forum. And that's how things stand right now. Today is 24 April, 2025, and this is 9:46 am; as it stands right now, the governor is still a bona fide member of the PDP. I don't know anything about defection."
While the APC continues to scrutinize Fubara, particularly after the state party chairman, Tony Okocha, cited unsettling revelations by former Head of Service Dr. George Nwaeke, no definitive proof of a strategic alliance between Fubara and the APC for the 2027 elections has surfaced.
Meanwhile, tensions are mounting as the APC presents itself as a formidable alternative against Fubara’s administration. Though whispers of a broader political realignment persist, it's essential to remember that these are mere speculations at this point.
