Florida State Football: Safety Conrad Hussey Dismissed Following Altercation with Assistant Coach

In a surprising turn of events, Florida State University has dismissed safety Conrad Hussey from its football team, following a physical altercation with an assistant coach during practice.

The incident, which reportedly was serious enough to be deemed "not a good look" for both parties involved, led to Hussey's immediate removal from the team, as confirmed by multiple reports and head coach Mike Norvell.

Hussey, a once-promising four-star recruit, had shown potential on the field, making a strong contribution with four takeaways as a freshman in 2023. However, he had reportedly fallen out of favor with the coaching staff before the incident.

The coach involved in the altercation has not been publicly identified, but Florida State's defensive backs staff includes defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. and safeties coach Evan Cooper.

Norvell, who has been focusing on building a culture of defense and teamwork at Florida State, simply confirmed Hussey’s dismissal without providing explicit details of the incident. He expressed gratitude for Hussey's time with the team but made it clear that the safety would not be allowed back.

This incident comes as Florida State prepares to begin the 2024 season on Aug. 30 against No. 8 Alabama in Tallahassee. Despite the setback, Norvell has allowed the new coordinators to make their own mark at Florida State, with Tony White, who spent the past two years at Nebraska, taking over as defensive coordinator.

White emphasized the need for everyone to be on the same page and understand expectations, as the team continues to focus on the theme of desperation and success in their daily practices.

Earl Little Jr., a cornerback for Florida State, spoke about the team's focus on culture at ACC Kickoff, stating that the theme on Florida State's team is being desperate to win, desperate to succeed.

As for Hussey's future, it remains uncertain. The safety attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and it will be interesting to see where his football journey takes him next.
