The Security Service of Ukraine's counterintelligence department, along with the National Police, has detained an FSB agent who allegedly set cars on fire and plotted a murder in Kyiv. This 33-year-old individual, with a background in military service in Russia, joined the FSB and was recruited to carry out a series of covert tasks in Ukraine. He started by setting vehicles of the Ukrainian defense forces ablaze as a test task, eventually receiving a weapon and ammunition, ready to execute an order to kill a prominent figure within the Ukrainian army. However, this Russian operative did not know any high-ranking officials personally [1]. He now faces the intimidating threat of life imprisonment.

On a different note, Dmitri Peskov, Putin's spokesman, has announced that Vladimir Putin's speech at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will be "quite informative, long, and comprehensive." The Kremlin expects 20,000 guests from 140 countries to attend the forum, and the event will be broadcast live by NTV starting from 13:00 [2].

On the battlefield, Russian soldiers claim to have destroyed the military part of the Ukrainian city of Chassiv Yar. According to military expert Andrei Marochko, the Ukrainian forces put up a fierce resistance as they were driven out from several city buildings and faced forced advancement towards the southern city limits [3].

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian military intelligence service has released an excerpt from a Russian radio transmission claiming that a missing Russian soldier was eaten by a comrade. The commander of the unit admits to the incident, stating, "Well, he ate his partner, that's all, that's something to think about," but the army has not provided evidence to support the claim [4].

Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul is urging the German government to promote a new course in defense policy in a more aggressive manner. According to him, Germany must talk more about its security, as phase two of the turning point has begun. This includes more personnel in the Bundeswehr, increased civil defense, and many other significant tasks for the government [5].

The Estonian army is constructing a defense line at the southwestern border with Russia. While uncommon, anti-tank trenches are being dug to slow down enemy forces and provide targets for the Estonian weapons [6].

In an effort to combat Russian aggression, the Ukrainian military has destroyed a Russian flamethrower system and several other Kremlin vehicles near Kharkiv [7].

A YouGov poll commissioned by Süddeutsche Zeitung Dossier indicates that more Germans support raising defense spending to up to five percent of GDP than those who oppose it. The upcoming NATO summit will discuss whether member countries should increase their defense spending to up to five percent, including military spending and militarily usable infrastructure [8].

Russia continues to target civilians in Ukraine, most recently in a massive drone strike on Odessa. The attack resulted in several casualties and damaged buildings, including high-rise apartments, a university building, a gas pipeline, and numerous cars. The Ukrainian authorities have expressed concern that more casualties might be discovered under the rubble [9].

In response to Putin's questioning of his legitimacy, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has responded, expressing his readiness to meet in any format with those who have the corresponding authority, including Putin, even if he has exceeded his constitutional mandate [10].

Chancellor Friedrich Merz has faced calls from both the Left and AfD to seek contact with Putin following his offer of talks [11]. Lars Klingbeil, Vice-Chancellor, ruled out a return to universal conscription but aims to create conditions for compulsory enlistment, as per the coalition agreement [12].

The German automotive industry is open to helping with Europe's rearmament efforts, with VDA president Hildegard Müller emphasizing that the industry is ready to offer its expertise when necessary [13].

Finally, a 31-year-old Ukrainian woman was killed, along with her child and grandmother, in an Iranian rocket attack on Israel. This tragic event underscores the growing tensions in the Middle East and the potential for the regional conflict to escalate further [14].
