Bergischer HC Suffers Away Loss to GWD Minden in Bundesliga Opener
In a closely contested opening game of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season, GWD Minden secured a deserved away win against Bergischer HC at the Klingenhalle. The match, attended by 2200 spectators, saw both teams show improvement in defense and score quickly in the initial phases.

The new head coach of Bergischer HC, Markus Pütz, admitted that the team lacked depth in attack before the break and gave the momentum away with errors after the restart. Eloy Morante Maldonado scored a spectacular spinning goal for Bergischer HC before the break, but it was not enough to turn the tide. After the restart, Bergischer HC briefly rekindled hope, narrowing the gap to 11:13, but they could not maintain the pressure and scored only one more goal before halftime.
For GWD Minden, the victory was a significant step towards securing points after their promotion. The fight for the first points after promotion continues to be tough for Bergischer HC, who will need to develop quickly to compete in the Bundesliga.
