Frustrated Football Director of OM, Medhi Benatia, voices disbelief following defeat against Real Madrid
In a hard-fought Champions League match, Real Madrid came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Olympique Marseille (OM). Despite a strong performance and a significant portion of the match played with a man advantage, OM was unable to hold onto their lead.
Medhi Benatia, OM's football director and a passionate fan, expressed his disappointment about the defeat but maintained that the team did not deserve to lose. He urged the players to keep their heads up, seeing many good things in the match despite the loss.
The turning point came in the second half when a penalty was awarded to Real Madrid. The decision was made after a VAR review, with the referee, Irfan Peljto, ruling that Facundo Medina had made contact with the ball using both his foot and arm during a tackle. The penalty was converted, and Real Madrid equalised.
Benatia found the penalty harsh, believing that OM had been unlucky. He highlighted the early minutes of the match, which were dominated by the "Bernabeu syndrome," as another factor that worked against OM.
Despite the defeat, Benatia remains proud of the team's performance against the Spanish giants. He encouraged the players to learn from the experience and to continue working hard, confident that better days are ahead for OM.
