Germany's winter chill persists, with Bavaria bracing for temperatures as low as minus 8 degrees. However, the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach predicts a gradual warming up in certain parts of Germany, albeit temporary. Marcus Beyer, a DWD meteorologist, reveals that while some regions may see a milder climate, the north-east and south-east are expected to continue enduring chillier temperatures.
The coming week is set to bring localized freezing rain with black ice at the beginning, particularly in the north-east. Meanwhile, there are signs of a thaw in the west and southwest. Towards the end of the week, regions from Thuringia to the Alps and Lake Constance may experience freezing rain and black ice, causing treacherous driving conditions.
You can expect chilly temperatures in southern Bavaria, ranging from minus 8 to minus 4 degrees. Monday's weather will be cold and fresh in low mountain ranges, with highs along the Rhine between 1 and 5 degrees. The west and southwest may see some thawing, while the Black Forest receives fresh snow from an altitude of 600 meters.
Wednesday brings freezing rain in the north-east, fresh snow in the mountains, and sunny weather north of the Erzgebirge and right next to the Alps. The temperatures will be a maximum of 3 to 6 degrees in the west and around 0 degrees in the northeast. Thursday remains calm but windy in the mountains and on North Sea islands, while Friday experiences storms with potential for freezing rain and black ice in Thuringia to the Alps and Lake Constance.
Remember, winter service obligation is crucial to manage wintry conditions across Germany. Northern regions like Berlin, Brandenburg, and Saxony continue to experience snow and ice-related accidents, making it essential to install winter tires and drive carefully. The UK is also grappling with its own wintry challenge, with freezing rain affecting Manchester and Newcastle areas, leading to travel disruptions.
