Martin Dorazin, a war correspondent for Czech Radio since 1990, has covered various conflicts around the world, including the Balkans, Afghanistan, and Ukraine. In January 2022, he left his post as a correspondent in Warsaw to go to Mariupol, where he continued to report on the most intense battle scenes even after the fall of the city.
The documentary offers a captivating portrayal of Dorazin’s career, his dedication to conveying the complexities of the war in Ukraine, and the personal risks involved in such work. It underscores the crucial importance of conflict reporting, highlighting the impact of war reporting in raising awareness internationally about the realities on the ground in Ukraine.
The screening, co-organized by several entities including the Embassy of the Czech Republic, the Embassy of Ukraine, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, the Member State presiding over the Council of the European Union, and the School of Public Affairs at Sciences Po Paris, will also include a Round Table Discussion. This discussion will feature H.E. In October 2022, Dorazin was appointed permanent correspondent in Ukraine, a testament to his commitment to reporting from the heart of the conflict. The screening of this documentary, hosted by the School of Public Affairs of Sciences Po, serves as a commemoration of the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The documentary, which was nominated by the Czech Chamber of Deputies to receive the Order of the White Lion, the highest Czech state honour, in the summer of 2024, is a poignant reminder of the human cost of war and the essential role of journalists in bringing the truth to light.
