Retirement: Ski Legend Hilde Gerg Enters Politics - From Olympic Gold to Local Politics: Hilde Gerg's New Chapter

Hilde Gerg, a retired alpine skiing champion, has been elected to the local council in Schönau am Königsee. Known as 'Wild Hilde' during her athletic career, this marks her first term in local politics. She secured her seat after the initial candidate declined their position.

Gerg rose to fame as one of the most versatile skiers on the World Cup circuit from the late 1990s until her retirement in 2005. Over her career, she claimed 59 podium finishes, including 20 victories. Her achievements also include an Olympic gold medal, one world championship gold, and three bronze medals at World Championships.

As a candidate for the CSU, Gerg was originally listed as the first alternate. However, she gained enough voter support to outpace a higher-ranked party member. The election results for the Gemeinderat now show seven elected CSU members, with Christoph Hallinger receiving 1,929 votes and Franz Graßl 1,829 votes. Gerg joins them as a *Nachrückerin*, filling the vacancy left by the initial candidate.

The former athlete now takes on a new role in local governance. Her election adds a high-profile name to the Schönau am Königsee council. The term officially begins after the 2026 election results were confirmed on 8 March.
