A former primary school teacher has become a world champion in archery just a year after taking up the sport. Gulnara Kabdollayeva, now head of the Atamura Applied Arts Club, won first place in the Zhamby event at the Archery World Cup in Ulsan, South Korea. Her rapid rise began when she first watch her daughter-in-law’s gift of a bow and arrows last summer.
Kabdollayeva’s journey started at home when her daughter-in-law brought a bow and arrows. Initially, she struggled with the technique but soon found her footing. By last summer, she entered her first competition at regional folk sports games and won the pairs event.
Kabdollayeva’s victory in Ulsan marks a remarkable achievement for someone who only began world news archery last year. Her win in the Zhamby event follows a rapid progression from local competitions to the world stage.
