Fritz Wepper's Holiday Cheer Amidst Hardships

Let's toss some positivity into the mix: Fritz Wepper, the renowned actor, is on the road to recovery following his bout with sepsis. In an exclusive interview, he confided to a prominent newspaper about his health improvements and shared his family's festive plans. Even his wife chimes in about her husband's struggle amidst the recent loss of his brother.

A Gleam of Hope: Fritz Wepper Overcomes Sepsis

Good news first! After battling sepsis, Fritz Wepper shares that he's improving, despite the hiccups. In an interview from the hospital, he says with a resilient tone, "Considering the circumstances, I'm doing well. I had sepsis again. But I've weathered the worst part of it." He goes on to say that the illness seemed to pop out of nowhere; he had been feeling good up until then. The sudden departure of his brother Elmar Wepper (born 1944; deceased 2023) was undoubtedly a shock, "The finality of it all is the hardest part. Elmar had always been a constant presence in my life for as long as I can remember."

Fritz will need to continue hospital stays, but a small slice of time amidst the holidays is all his family needs - specifically Christmas Eve. The 82-year-old shared that he will be able to head home for a few blissful hours, surrounded by his daughter Sophie and the family of his first wife Angela (1942-2019).

Christmas Day with Wepper: Love and Support

His current wife, Susanne Kellermann, and their younger daughter Filippa (12 years old) will join him in the hospital on Christmas Day. A sweet exchange between them reveals, "The visits from my loved ones give me strength."

Delving Deep

Susanne admits that her husband's recent losses and health struggles have left her feeling helpless at times, "He's been through so much. I wish I could have comforted him more." The previously stoic actor is now grappling with the weight of events, including his brother's passing and ongoing medical issues. The sudden turn of events is enough to test anyone’s resilience, Susanne reveals, “His health was very serious at first). I’ve had to steel myself for so many farewells and goodbyes, and each one takes such an emotional toll on me. I’m always on edge, restless, unable to sleep, praying for the all-clear every single time it happens.”

The Long Road Ahead

Fritz's medical journey has been one of challenge and fortitude. In early 2021, news broke out about his skin cancer diagnosis, which had metastasized. Followed by a tumor removal in his abdomen earlier this year, his body continued to fight off the aftermath of a coronavirus infection, leaving him in the hospital for over 15 months.
