Friends won't be neglected: Bergisch Gladbach and Bethe Foundation launch another substantial fundraising initiative for Butscha

In the spirit of unity, peace, and humanity, the city of Bergisch Gladbach, in partnership with the Bethe Foundation and the Bergisch Gladbach – Butscha partnership association, has initiated a donation campaign to aid the Ukrainian city of Butscha. The campaign, which began on July 1, 2025, aims to provide humanitarian and reconstruction support to Butscha, a city severely impacted by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

As of July 4, 2025, the campaign is actively ongoing, with donations being collected through various channels, including online platforms, local events, and direct contributions. The community in Bergisch Gladbach has shown strong engagement, with residents, local businesses, and civic groups coming together to support this cause.

The purpose of the campaign is threefold: to supply essential items such as medical supplies, food, and clothing to affected residents of Butscha; to support the rebuilding of infrastructure damaged or destroyed during the conflict, including public buildings and schools; and to reinforce the sister city relationship by showing solidarity and providing tangible support during a time of crisis.

The Bethe Foundation has pledged to double all incoming amounts, up to a total of 50,000 euros, to maximise the impact of the donations. This commitment underscores the foundation's dedication to the cause and its belief in the importance of helping Butscha recover and rebuild sustainably.

Butscha, a symbol of the deep traces left by the Russian war on Ukraine, is also a testament to the impressive determination of its people not to be defeated. Despite repeated drone and rocket attacks, the people of Butscha tirelessly work to make their city livable again.

The chairman of the partnership association, Frank Haag, and his team coordinate the aid actions with great personal commitment, ensuring that every euro of the donation money is used sensibly and fully in the partner city. Mayor Frank Stein is in regular exchange with his colleague Anatolii Fedoruk, ensuring a close partnership between the two cities.

The planned healthcare and nursing facility for veterans in Butscha requires additional funding due to the cancellation of international organization funding. This facility will provide much-needed care for those who have been affected by the conflict.

The city of Bergisch Gladbach, the Bethe Foundation, and the Bergisch Gladbach – Butscha partnership association are continuing their commitment to their Ukrainian partner city, Butscha. If you would like to contribute to this cause, information on how to support the association's work can be found on the website: www.butscha.gl. Your donation can help close gaps and ensure local care for the facility in Butscha. Together, we can help Butscha rebuild and recover.

In the context of ongoing war-and-conflicts in Ukraine, the donation campaign initiated by the city of Bergisch Gladbach aims to provide humanitarian and reconstruction support for Butscha, with politics playing a crucial role in fostering unity and solidarity. The Bethe Foundation's pledge to double donations, up to 50,000 euros, highlights the importance of politics and general-news in mobilizing resources for affected cities like Butscha, a city severely impacted by the conflict.
