Schlager Brothers Ulrich: Opting for Local Gigs over Tropical Escapes and Luxury Cruises
Choosing the Right Cake Causes More Anxiety Than Stage Performances - Friends opt for a cake selection process prime source of anxiety, superior to execution
Karl-Heinz Ulrich (74) and Bernd Ulrich (76), the irrepressible Schlager duo Die Amigos, won't let the thrill of the road get them all worked up. As Bernd Ulrich shared with Deutsche Presse-Agentur, the real stressors in life are simple mundanities: "What causes stress? Not being able to open that blasted gate - that's a burnout!"
For these all-grins brothers from central Hesse, the music scene doesn't ruffle their feathers. In fact, Bernd muses, "Deciding between an apple cake and a Black Forest cherry cake may give us a bit of a headache, but the music we bring to our fans... it's a breeze."
The pair has amassed a devoted fanbase spanning multiple generations, even capturing the youth market: "Schlager's doing quite well these days, at least given some folks," shares Karl-Heinz.
Known for their down-to-earth demeanor and meticulous planning, Die Amigos shy away from exotic performances. For instance, they've turned down invites to perform on the sunny island of Mallorca, citing overcommitment. "We've been courteously asked to join a luxurious cruise, but, no thanks," Bernd chuckles. Cavernous halls across Germany await their presence, and there's simply no time for tropical getaways or floating music festivals.
"There's enough to keep us busy. We say 'no' to a multitude of offers we can't or simply don't want to take, because we intentionally limit our appearances to around 70 to 80 gigs a year," explains Bernd Ulrich.
