"Friends' iconic coffee shop, Central Perk, to establish a permanent place in Times Square"

The beloved coffeehouse from the iconic TV show "Friends," Central Perk, is set to open a permanent location in the heart of Times Square, New York. This real-life version of the coffeehouse, which was a popular setting on the sitcom that aired on NBC from 1994 to 2004, will be a permanent fixture at the northeast corner of Seventh Avenue and 47th Street.

Despite Central Perk having been previously replicated in reality, only as pop-up locations, this will mark the first time the coffee shop will be a bona fide café. The menu for the Times Square Central Perk is being designed by Tom Colicchio, an executive producer for "Top Chef" and a James Beard Award winner.

The new Central Perk coffee shop is not the first permanent version of the Central Perk coffee shop, but it is the first in New York City. It will join a sister location named "The One in Boston," which opened last year. The appeal of the Times Square Central Perk is rooted in nostalgia, given the fractured cultural landscape.

The Forever 21 founder, Do Won Chang, and his wife, Jin Sook Chang, are the people behind opening the permanent version of the Central Perk Coffee Café in Times Square. The coffee shop is located near an Olive Garden and just a block from the Disney Store in Times Square, New York.

The opening of the Times Square Central Perk is scheduled for "late fall" 2025, according to a statement from Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences and the cafe's owners. Given the enduring popularity of "Friends," the new café is expected to attract tourists, making it a significant addition to the Times Square landscape.

Despite the show's end, "Friends" has maintained a strong influence on popular culture. The new Central Perk coffee shop is not the first instance of the show's setting being brought to life permanently. However, it is the first permanent version, offering fans a chance to step into the world of Central Perk and relive the memories of their favourite sitcom.
