Winegrowers End Grape Harvest - Freyburg-Unstrut's Record 2025 Harvest Promises Aromatic Wines
The Freyburg-Unstrut Winegrowers’ Association has successfully completed the grape harvest for the year 2025. Silvia Heinrich, the winemaker at Weingut Silvia Heinrich in Burgenland, led the hand harvest which began on September 15, 2025. This year's harvest promises aromatic, fruity, and fresh wines, with the first releases expected later this year.
The 2025 vintage saw a significant increase in yield compared to last year, with nearly three million liters harvested. This is a stark contrast to the 2024 harvest, which was severely impacted by frost damage, resulting in a yield of only 600,000 liters.
Müller-Thurgau was the leading variety this year, with a production of 500,000 liters. Bacchus followed closely with 430,000 liters, and Pinot Blanc was third with 300,000 liters. The cooperative's members cultivate over 30 grape varieties, with traditional first watch including aromatic varieties such as Bacchus, Kerner, Huxelrebe, and Scheurebe.
