Fresno State Women's Basketball Elite Camp Analysis: Highlighting the event for talented female basketball players in Fresno State
Fresno State's women's basketball team recently hosted an elite camp for high school players from across the country and the Valley. The camp, which took place on the Fresno State campus, was the first event under the guidance of new head coach, Ryan McCarthy.
McCarthy, who previously served as the head coach at Alaska-Anchorage for over a decade, is eager to instil a winning culture in the Valley. He wants the community to be proud of the players on and off the court, and he believes that the team's motto for the season, "Winners migrate to the Valley," encapsulates this ethos.
During the camp, the participants ran through drills and games, and they were also given insights into the world of college basketball within the NCAA. Topics such as Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) and recruiting were discussed. McCarthy also took the opportunity to explain to the camp participants what a winner is and what their habits are.
The branding of the team's motto was evident throughout the gym and locker room, serving as a constant reminder of the team's ambitions. The recruiting station area, prominently displayed in the hallways and locker room, further underscored the team's commitment to attracting and nurturing talent.
Approximately 120 high school students participated in the camp, and McCarthy made it clear that he values local talent. He believes that having winners on and off the court is crucial for the success of the Fresno State team. He also emphasised the importance of educating players about social media usage as they move up.
As the upcoming season for the Fresno State team is several months away, the emphasis on culture, talent, and values is a promising sign for fans. Fresno State is promoting the idea that the Valley is about Fresno State and wants to fill the place with winners. With McCarthy at the helm, it seems that the team is well on its way to achieving this goal.
