Fresno State to see debut of Kurt Warner's son, E.J., as their starting quarterback
Fresno State Bulldogs Announce Starting Quarterback for Season Opener
In an exciting development for the Fresno State Bulldogs, head coach Matt Entz has announced that E.J. Warner, the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner, will start for the team in their season opener.
Warner, who stands at 6-foot and 203 pounds, has a distinguished college career behind him. After starting for two seasons at Temple and one season at Rice, Warner has amassed impressive statistics and accomplishments.
At Temple (2022 and 2023 seasons), Warner threw for a total of 6,104 yards, 41 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions. In the 2023 season alone, he set a Temple record with 23 passing touchdowns and completed 445 attempts, the most in a single season in the university's history. He also had three 400-yard passing games and two games with five touchdown passes. Warner led the American Athletic Conference (AAC) in passing yards per game in 2023, averaging 307.6 yards.
Warner's performance at Rice (2024 season) was equally impressive. He passed for 2,710 yards with 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while completing 64.3% of his passes, the second-best completion percentage in Rice history. He also led a notable game-winning drive against UTSA, throwing the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds.
Overall, across three seasons at Temple and Rice, Warner started 31 games, completing 796 of 1,327 passes (around 60% completion), and throwing for 8,814 yards, 58 touchdowns, and 37 interceptions.
Warner's competition for the starting spot was fierce, with redshirt sophomore Jayden Mandal and sophomore Carson Conklin also vying for the position. However, Warner's impressive college career and his ability to lead the team proved decisive.
The Bulldogs' home opener is scheduled for Aug. 30 against Georgia Southern. The team will face Kansas in their season opener on Aug. 23. With Warner at the helm, fans are eager to see what the Bulldogs can achieve in the upcoming season.
