Freshly scheduled HGTV broadcasts for a previously cancelled program set to air this month
In a surprising turn of events, HGTV's popular home renovation series, "Bargain Block," has come to an end after its fourth season. The network announced in June 2025 that they would not be renewing the show for a fifth season, causing disappointment for both the cast and fans.
The cancellation was confirmed by the show's star, Keith Bynum, who explained that the decision had caused financial and logistical difficulties for the team. Despite initial plans to proceed with season 5, the network reversed its decision following preparation efforts.
The last season of "Bargain Block" had several already filmed episodes that had not aired at the time of the cancellation announcement. These remaining episodes were scheduled to air starting August 20, 2025. However, it's important to note that these were episodes from the fourth and final season, not a new season as some fans may have mistakenly believed due to social media posts teasing new episodes.
"Bargain Block" follows Evan Thomas, Keith Bynum, and real estate expert Shea Hicks-Whitfield as they buy, renovate, and sell houses in Detroit. Thomas and Bynum rebuild abandoned houses in the city to create affordable, stylish, and fully furnished starter homes. Hicks-Whitfield offers advice and support to Thomas and Bynum on their projects.
The new episodes of "Bargain Block" are titled "#BargainBlockWednesday" and are set to premiere on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at 9 p.m. ET on HGTV. Fans have expressed mixed emotions about the new episodes, with some excited and others still disappointed about the show's cancellation.
The cancellation of "Bargain Block" is part of a broader shake-up at HGTV that includes multiple fan-favourite shows being axed amidst a loss of viewership, partly attributable to competition from social media home renovation creators. Other shows that have been cancelled this summer include "Married to Real Estate," "Farmhouse Fixer," "Izzy Does It," "Christina on the Coast," "Flipping El Moussas," and "Battle on the Beach."
One fan commented, "Can't wait to watch it!! You were the best!! Revitalizing neighborhoods, giving 1st time home buyers a chance to achieve a dream. Wishing you all the best!! Shame on HGTV." Another fan wrote, "Bittersweet. I'm thankful that you have some new episodes for us to enjoy. Still outraged at HGTV."
After the cancellation, Bynum and Thomas indicated they were moving on to new projects outside HGTV and declined to return to the network even if the cancellation was reversed. Despite the end of "Bargain Block," the duo's work in Detroit continues to make a positive impact on the community.
Keith Bynum, in a statement, shared that the financial and logistical difficulties faced by the team led to the cancelation of "Bargain Block." Curiously, the last season's unaired episodes are titled "#BargainBlockWednesday" and are set to premiere on August 20, despite the show's cancellation.
