Waking up and feeling overwhelmed with the morning news? Don't worry, Business Recorder's got your back! Here's a quick rundown of the top stories that should make your mornings a breeze:

Traffic Revolution in Sindh

The Sindh government is heading toward a major transformation in the city's traffic scene by outlawing four-seater rickshaws, known as Qingqis. The move is part of a broader initiative to curb congestion and improve traffic flow along city roads 13. Under the new rules, only one- and two-seater auto-rickshaws will be allowed, accompanied by several additional traffic law reforms.

Sindh's Road Safety Crusade

The proposed reforms will include mandatory third-party inspections for both commercial and non-commercial vehicles, a ban on the sale of tinted windows, fancy lights, and sirens, and safety measures for heavy vehicles such as trucking sensors and cameras 1. Heavy vehicles will also face restrictions during daylight hours and will need fitness certificates to operate on the roads.

Heavy Penalties for Traffic Violations

Infractions will come with a cost, with heavy fines ranging from Rs200,000 for government vehicles driving the wrong way to up to Rs300,000 for repeated instances of dangerous driving. Cars with unpaid fines will be barred from being sold. A special traffic magistrate will handle cases related to these violations, and traffic, transport, and excise systems will be integrated online for seamless implementation 1.

These sweeping traffic law reforms follow a sharp increase in accidents involving heavy vehicles, which claimed approximately 500 lives in 2024. The final amended laws and rules are set to be presented to the cabinet for approval.
