Spotify announces Ghanaian singer Kofee Bean as the second Fresh Finds Africa Artist

Streaming platform Spotify has selected independent artist Kofee Bean as the second Fresh Finds Africa Artist. This monthly program focuses on highlighting and supporting emerging talents in Africa.

Launched in March 2022, the Fresh Finds Africa Artist program aims to provide independent artists with the necessary tools to grow their audiences and reach new listeners. The initiative forms part of Spotify's broader efforts to bolster the African music industry, as evidenced by initiatives such as EQUAL and Radar.

Singer Patience Naa Oyo Titus-Glover, better known as Kofee Bean, was chosen for her unique sound that blends multiple genres, including Neo-Soul and R&B. Taking inspiration from formidable female artists like Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Sade, and Aṣa, Kofee Bean is on a mission to establish herself in the alternative music space, both on the African continent and in the diaspora.

Kofee Bean made her debut in 2021 with the track "Breathing," featuring rapper Kiddblack. Her music caught the attention of Spotify's editors, eventually leading to her selection for the Fresh Finds Africa program.

Phiona Okumu, Spotify's head of music for Sub-Saharan Africa, spoke about the program, saying, "We are always on the lookout for promising artists under our various hubs at Spotify, and we want to showcase and offer them social support to advance their music careers." Fresh Finds Artists also receive personalized training on best practices for using the Spotify platform and in-app.

Since its global launch in 2016, the Fresh Finds program has featured over 25,000 artists, leading to an average increase of 108% in their monthly listeners within a month of their music being included in the playlists. This growth is what artists like Kofee Bean can anticipate.

Founded in 2008, Spotify has transformed the way people listen to music. The platform offers access to over 82 million tracks, including more than 3.6 million podcast titles, either for free or through an upgrade to Spotify Premium for exclusive features. With approximately 406 million users, including 180 million subscribers, Spotify is the world's most popular audio streaming subscription service, available across 184 markets.
