Fresh election results in Koblenz reveal the city's new mayor

In the upcoming mayoral election of Koblenz, scheduled for 2026, four male candidates are set to compete for the eight-year term that will last from 2026 to 2034. The contenders are Ernst Knopp (CDU), David Langner (independent, supported by SPD and Greens), Markus Meixner (AfD), and David Dasbach (The PARTY, supported by The Left).

Ernst Knopp, an IT consultant by profession, has been a member of the Koblenz city council for nine years and will also be supported by the FDP in Koblenz. Knopp has not announced his political background or policies publicly yet.

David Langner, the current mayor of Koblenz since 2018, served as a State Secretary in the Ministry of Social Affairs, Labor, Health, and Demography before entering politics. Langner is running as an independent candidate but is backed by the SPD and Greens.

Markus Meixner, the AfD candidate, is a local resident of Koblenz and works as a construction technician. He has not yet served on the city council.

David Dasbach, the candidate for The PARTY, is a high school teacher in Koblenz and, like Meixner, has not yet held a seat on the city council. Dasbach is supported by The Left.

The city of Koblenz is divided into 78 voting districts, each with its own polling station. The polling stations will be open on Sunday from 8 am to 6 pm. The public counting of votes will begin at 6 pm, and the results will be displayed on screens at the Historical Town Hall in Koblenz on Sunday evening.

Interested voters can also view the results of the vote counting online at wahlen.koblenz.de. The exact winner of the election is not yet known, as only men have declared candidacy, and the election date with possibly a second runoff round is in the future.

Regardless of the outcome, the residents of Koblenz are eager to exercise their democratic rights and shape the future of their city. The mayoral election in 2026 promises to be a significant event in the political landscape of Koblenz.
